She doubts he’ll take her with him, but she has to try. She just can’t stay here in this town, not after Finn and Quinn, not after everything. She knows she only has a few months until she’ll be gone, away from the painful memories for good, but even that seems too long to wait. He’s been planning this road trip for months, talking about the idea of it even longer, and she knows it isn’t likely he’ll change his plans to include her.
But she has to try.
She’s sitting on his front step when he pulls into his driveway, hands clasped in her lap. She looks up at him as he steps out of the truck and he pauses briefly before he shuts his door. His eyes shift to the bag next to her, and he walks toward her as he juggles his keys in his hand.
She’s silent, doesn’t even attempt to plead her case to him. But he’s Noah, so she knows he knows anyway. He understands. He always has, even when they didn’t get along.
He nods toward the house. “C’mon. I have to pack, then we’ll head out.”

They drive down the streets, toward the highway, and Rachel rolls down the window of Noah’s truck, feels the wind whip her hair into her face, and grins as Noah turns up the radio. She looks over at him, his arm propped up on the window frame, one hand resting on the top of the steering wheel, and smiles.
She can’t wait to dip her toes in the Pacific ocean.
